皆さんは大学で何を勉強していましたか？日本で人気のある学部・専攻は何でしょうか？
新学期の始まりが近づいているので、今回はカナダの大学生に人気のある専攻(major)を紹介したいと思います。
その1：Business（ビジネス）
ビジネスが人気なのは日本や他の国でもそうだと思いますが、カナダでも同じです。しかも、男性・女性両方に非常に人気のある専攻です。経営、マーケティング、会計、経済、金融などの科目を勉強します。ビジネスを専攻すると就職の機会が多いため、人気になっているんだと思います。
その2：Psychology（心理学）
私がカナダの大学に通っていた時、心理学専攻の友達がいて、授業が比較的に簡単で内容が面白いから専攻として選んだと言っていました。確かに内容がとても興味深いからこちらの専攻を選ぶ人が多いと思います。それに、心理学を専攻する全ての学生は心理学者か精神科医になりたい訳でもないと思います。こちらで勉強する内容は様々な職業に役に立ち、大学を卒業した後に、コンサルティングや教育での仕事を見つける人がいます。
その3：Nursing（看護）
こちらの専攻は特に女性から人気があります。カナダのケベック州とユーコン準州以外の州では、看護師になるためには少なくともBachelor’s Degree（学士）が必要です。
そのため大学卒だけで、看護師として50,000ドルの年収を期待できます。しかも仕事が比較的簡単に見つかりやすいことから、人気になっているのでしょう。
以上が、カナダで特に人気のある大学での専攻です。

Hello Jenn, How are you? I agree that nurse is an excellent job in Japan, too. After graduation from high school, they enter a three-year-course of nursing school. They can easily find a job in a hospital right after their graduation and can earn a good amount of money. However, I’m not sure about psychiatrists or psychotherapists in Japan. We are covered by the Japanese health insurance and we are easily access to psychiatrists. Therefore, the number of psychiatrist is increasing here partly because a lot of people are suffering from mental diseases. I often see patients with depression and insomnia. I can’t spend enough time to counsel these people. But, I guess psychologists see these patients and help them alleviate these symptoms.

you for sharing your thoughts on these professions in Japan. Nursing really
does seem like a strong career choice and I can easily understand its
popularity. I also imagine that in a lot of countries, the number of people
suffering from mental diseases and disorders is on the rise. In Canada,
depression is one of the biggest mental disorders affecting youth and
apparently suicide is one of the leading causes of death for youths ages
15-24. There definitely does appear to be a strong need for professionals
in psychology and psychiatry to help treat those suffering from these types
of diseases.
By the way, I thought I’d share a few small corrections for your comment.
