4年間かかるなんて…。オーストラリアの厳しい運転免許の取り方 2

Hi There! How are you today? It’s Max from Ecom!

その1:Learners Permit(黄色いLプレート)

その2:Provisional P1 License(赤いPプレート)

Learners Permitで120時間以上大人と一緒に運転の練習をしたら、「Provisional P1 License」のテストを受けることができます。このテストでは、車両管理局で実際に車を運転します。そこで合格したら「Provisional P1 License」をもらいます。このライセンスなら一人で運転できますが、90km/hの速度制限があります。そして、もしスピード違反や飲酒運転などをしたらすぐにライセンスがなくなります。

その3:Provisional P2 License(緑のPプレート)

    Hello Max,
I always appreciate your interesting topics about Australia. The best thing in Australia is that they drive the same way as we do in Japan; they keep the right.
When I was in New Jersey, I went to a motor vehicle office, took a written test and got a New Jersey’s driver license. I didn’t take a road skill test in New Jersey. Is it possible for a Japanese to acquire an Australian driver’s license if he/she has a Japanese driver’s license? Do we have to take the test from scratch? Or, can we skip the road skill test in Australia if we have a Japanese driver’s license?
Do they use kilometers or miles on traffic signs? I guess they use kilometers. In the US, the traffic signs are written in miles, not in kilometers. Therefore, for example, when we drive 65 miles per hour, the car runs over 100 kilometers per hour.
I saw a lot of Japanese cars in Sydney and they were rather new. I didn’t see jalopies in Sydney. Do they have a regular vehicle inspection in Australia?
I guess Australia is stringent on gun control and the cities are extremely safe. They speak English and the weather in general is mild. I suppose Australia is the best place for Japanese students to study English. If we can have an Australian driver’s license easily, it would be a nice place for Japanese to stay longer.
Thank you for sharing important information about Australia.

      Hi Seiichi,
      Thanks for your comment.

When traveling in Australia, you can use your Japanese drivers license. If you are living in Australia, then you can swap your Japanese license for an Australian one without taking any test after living in Australia for six months. In this case, if you are not a permanent resident of Australia, you will receive a temporary overseas visitor license that needs to be updated every 12 months.

Yes, we use kilometers on traffic signs. We do not use miles at all. Japanese cars, especially the Toyota corolla are very popular in Australia, but so are European cars like Volkswagen.

I had to look up the word ‘jalopy’ as I had never heard it before, so thank you for teaching me a new English word 🙂 There are regular inspections and most people have relatively new cars.
