今日は英語学習者の皆さんのために、カナダの英語について話したいと思います。
アメリカ英語とイギリス英語は聞いたことある人が多いでしょうが、カナダ英語って聞いたことありますか？カナダ英語にはどんな特徴があるのでしょうか？アメリカ英語、イギリス英語との違いは何でしょうか？
今日はそれについて書かせて頂きます。今までのブログでも出てきたように、カナダはアメリカとイギリス両方の影響があるんですよ。
その1：発音
まずは発音について説明します。カナダ英語の発音基本的に、標準のアメリカ英語と大きく変わりません。ニューファンドランド州とケベック州には方言がありますが、標準のカナダ英語はアメリカ英語とほぼ同じ発音です。そのため辞書などでは、American English（アメリカ英語）とCanadian English（カナダ英語）ではなく、North American English（北米英語）というカテゴリになることが多いです。
その2：スペル
カナダ英語のスペルはアメリカ英語とイギリス英語が混ざっています。そのため色々な国の英語の中でも、カナダ英語のスペルは一番覚えるのが難しいです。英語学習者の皆さんごめんなさい！(笑)
ではそれを知ってもらうために、ここで一旦クイズをしましょう。
第1問：カナダ英語で「整理する」のスペルは何でしょうか？
a) organize（アメリカ英語）
b) organise（イギリス英語）
第2問：カナダ英語で「色」のスペルは何でしょうか？a) color （アメリカ英語）
b) colour（イギリス英語）
第3問：カナダ英語で「真ん中」のスペルは何でしょうか？a) center（アメリカ英語）
b) centre（イギリス英語）
…正解はa、b、bです。カナダ英語では基本的にイギリス英語のスペルを使用しますが、例外もあります。複雑ですね。
その3：語彙
カナダ英語にはアメリカ英語、イギリス英語にはない独特な語彙もあります。
Toque：ニット帽
ABM：エーティーエム（ATM）
→カナダ英語にもATMはありますが、ABMと呼ばれることが多いです。ちなみにABMはAutomatic Banking Machineの略で、ATMはAutomatic Teller Machineの略です。
double-double：ダブル･ダブル
→コーヒーを注文する時に役立つ単語です。砂糖2杯・クリーム2杯、これがカナダ人の好きな甘めのコーヒーです。以前の記事で出てきたTim Hortonsで使ってみましょう！
カナダ英語の紹介は以上です。このような特徴を覚えたらカナダに留学、旅行をする際にとても役立つと思います。

How are you? I’m not sure what you are doing now in Canada. I hope you are well. Since you left Japan, I stop writing some article on the E-com website. I wish you are here and can take a look at my diary. In Japan, a lot of people are suffering from pollen allergy, Kahun-shou in Japanese. I think you don’t have that kind of disease in Canada.
From this March, non-stop flight from Haneda to Tronto is available and I feel Tronto is quite near from here. If I have a chance, I want to visit Tronto again.

well, thank you. How about you?
Right now, I’m working full-time as an advisor in my hometown in Canada. I
used to get very bad hay fever when living in Tokyo, but I’m hoping I won’t
have that problem here. We still have snow on the ground at this point, so
I think we’re still far away from hay fever season.
It’s too bad that you stopped writing articles on the Ecom website. Your
articles were always very well-written, informative, and served as
excellent examples for other students. I’m sure your current teacher(s)
would be happy to comment on your articles or offer corrections if you were
to post something. I will also gladly respond to any comments you leave
here, so I do hope you will continue to write.
I didn’t know that Haneda now offers direct flights to Toronto. That would
have been nice while I was still in Japan… I do hope you will get the
chance to visit Toronto again. Maybe I would recommend waiting until the
summer, because it’s still a little cold right now.
I hope you are doing well and still enjoying your lessons at Ecom. I’m also
happy to see you’re reading my blog and hope you enjoy it as well.
