日本語には「ふーん」「うわー」「げっ」のような、思わず口に出してしまう表現がたくさんありますよね。日本語を勉強している人にとって、このような表現をマスターするのはなかなか難しいです。私もこれには苦労しました…。
しかし、英語にも同じような表現はたくさんあります。ネイティブスピーカーはよく使いますが、授業などで教わることはあまりないと思います。そこで今日は、英語の感嘆語を紹介したいと思います。これらの表現を覚えておいて正しく使えば、英語がよりネイティブっぽくなると思います！
その1. Oh!（ああ、おー！）
驚きや感動を表す言葉です。例えば道で誰かとぶつかってしまった場合、英語では「Oh! I’m sorry.」と言います。この場合、誰かにぶつかって驚いたため、ohを使います。もう一つの使い方としては、例えば授業でやっと分かったことがあって「ああ、なるほどね～」と言いたい場合には英語だと、「Oh! Now I get it.」と言えます。
その2. Ouch!（いてっ、いてて）
急に痛みを感じる時に使う表現です。例えば裸足で石を踏んだとしたら、「Ouch! That hurt.」と言えます。
その3. Aww!（可愛い！）
可愛いものを見た時に言う表現です。英語のネイティブは「Aww! The baby was so cute!」とか「Aww! Your puppy is adorable.」といった感じで、可愛いものを見る度にこの表現を口に出してしまいます。
その4. Oops!（あれっ、おっと）
これは、ミスをしてしまった時に使う表現です。「Oops! I forgot to do my homework.」とか「Oops! I dropped my coffee.」という風に使います。
その5. Yuck!（おえっ、まずい）
こちらは、まずいものを食べた時に使う表現です。また、何か気持ち悪い光景を見た後にも使います。例えば、「Yuck! This steak is still raw!」と言う場合には「ますい」という意味になります。「Kissing in public? Yuck! That’s gross.」の場合には、「気持ち悪い」というニュアンスです。
次の英語の授業では、このような感嘆語を使ってみてはいかがでしょうか？英語の先生は驚いてしまって、「oh!」と言うのでしょうね(笑)

I’m interested in reading your interesting topics about Canadian culture. This time, I learn several expressions of English interjections. It’s kind of fun to listen to native speaker’s saying, “gosh”,”aha”, “well” “whew”.
The other day, I came across an American man at the gym and he said F-word when he lost his locker key. He was naked looking for the key. He said the F-word quite often. Do you think the word is also one of the interjections?

There are a lot of interesting interjections in English and being able to use them naturally certainly makes speakers sound fluent.
The image of this naked American man looking for his key and saying the F-word is very funny. The F-word is definitely a kind of interjection too, although I certainly don’t recommend using it too often! However, I think
Canadians and Americans (maybe Canadians more so) do tend to use these inappropriate interjections fairly frequently though. I sometimes even hear my co-workers swearing at work, which surprised me at first, but I guess it is one of those words that is easy to slip out when angry, upset or even just excited.
